From Conception to Birth - A QI Journey Towards Holistic Antenatal Care
Faced with an increasing rate of stillbirth during the covid-19 pandemic, NHS Lanarkshire’s quality improvement team launched a programme to reverse this trend by enhancing care from conception to birth.
The team developed the Holistic Antenatal Care Pathway to provide women with optimal care and targeted, evidence-based interventions. Improvements included comprehensive risk assessments, ensuring patients saw the right professional at the right time, maintaining continuity of care and enhancing patient education.
While the trust initially aimed for a 20 per cent reduction in stillbirths, the programme achieved a 43.9 per cent reduction, significantly exceeding expectations.
