Real World Evidence Study on the Resource Impact of Immunotherapy Formulations in an NHS Cancer Centre

This partnership between industry and the NHS aimed to understand the real-world impact of adopting subcutaneous cancer immunotherapy treatments on efficiency and capacity within cancer services. The work showed substantial efficiency gains at a large tertiary referral cancer centre. Switching to this delivery method resulted in a median 54-minute reduction in patient time spent in the systemic anticancer therapy (SACT) treatment unit, along with a 2.4-fold decrease in drug wastage. These changes ultimately improved overall capacity and made better use of staff time and resources. The findings are being presented at international conferences and submitted to a global medical journal to highlight the potential for capacity improvements, efficiency gains and cost savings, and to share lessons with other cancer services worldwide.
