Bringing Specialist Care Home: A Partnership Transforming Access to Complex Obesity Treatment

This partnership is transforming obesity care by bringing specialist treatment back into SNEE Integrated Care Board and delivering on system-wide priorities. Previously, patients faced a two-year wait and had to travel long distances for out-of-area care, creating difficult and inequitable access for carers, shift workers, patients with complex comorbidities, and those who cannot leave home. Organisers co-designed an integrated, digital-first service that now assesses patients within eight days. Acting as a virtual extension of the ESNEFT bariatric team, Roczen’s clinically led platform provides local access, accelerates surgical readiness, releases NHS capacity, and shows how virtual care can strengthen ICB delivery and tackle inequalities.
