An Integrated, Personalised, Digital-First Pathway for Patients Living with Complex Obesity

This partnership demonstrates how an NHS trust and integrated care board can launch a new service in 2025 that addresses one of the nation’s biggest health challenges while expanding access, improving outcomes, and enhancing NHS productivity. The result is an integrated specialist weight management and complex obesity service, co-designed with clinicians and patients, which combines NHS face-to-face and virtual care. Patients are once again being treated locally, with waiting times reduced from two years to just eight days. Delivering personalised care across medical and surgical pathways, the service restores capacity and supports Suffolk and North East Essex ICB’s Core20PLUS5 objectives on tackling health inequalities.
