The PSC & Parkinson’s UK – Time‑Critical Medications Dashboard to Improve Patient Safety and Financial Efficiency Across the NHS

A national collaboration between The PSC, Parkinson’s UK, and NHS system representatives has developed a data-driven dashboard for time-critical medications (TCM). The tool helps NHS organisations understand the impact of delayed or omitted Parkinson’s medications in hospitals. The dashboard supports local and national medicines safety improvement and has been promoted by NHS England and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. It estimates that preventing TCM delays and omissions could prevent around 150 inpatient deaths, save the NHS £66m, reduce bed days by 180,000, and prevent 860 readmissions across England, Scotland, and Wales. When other TCM-dependent conditions are included, the benefits are estimated to be seven to eight times larger.
